Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1895. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.

Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Paxton could hardly believe it was his last night of being a Hogwarts student. He already knew what he planned to do after graduation; he was going to attempt to enter the Spirit Division at the Ministry. He liked the idea of having a hand in making sure people like his spectral father had a pleasant afterlife. Besides, he felt like it would also be a lot of fun.
Some people had expected he would go into Quidditch but that had never been one of his serious life plans. Not that he was ever fully serious about anything but he felt that was besides the point. "I still can hardly believe I am going to no longer be returning here in September," Paxton mused to the person he had been speaking with as he handed them a drink.
"I know what you mean." Sybille accepted the champagne Paxton had handed her as she took a break between dances. "I keep thinking this is all a dream." Or maybe nightmare. She didn't want to leave. Hogwarts had been safety as her life grew bleaker and bleaker. And now she was to be thrust upon that life with no hesitation. At least she'd managed to convince Ace that she didn't need finishing school after this. Giving up baking and becoming precisely the little lady everyone expected of her had stopped that threat from looming over her head. But that also meant there was nothing to protect her from the reality of the world. If all went according to plan she'd be married and settled at least in the next year.
"It isn't it it?" Unfortunately Sybille wasn't able to keep the grimace off her face with that question.
Paxton smiled as the other Hufflepuff agreed with him. It did really feel unreal but the firm handshakes of congratulations and questions of what he would be doing next made it feel quite real, at least. Though he had vaguely known his answer to the latter question since he was around ten years old and his father had newly become a ghost.
"Yes, it is. I'll be at the Ministry though I imagine you're expected to do the debutante thing?" Nothing wrong with that as far as he was concerned. But it did give a peculiar... unpleasant feeling to think of the beautiful Miss Lukeson dancing with all sorts of strange men who would have no idea how special she was.
"Oh, have you found a position yet? Or do you need to wait for your NEWT results?" Sybille hadn't heard if Paxton had recieved a job yet, some of their classmates already had but quite a few were waiting for better jobs at the end of the summer. Regardless she was happy for him if he had indeed found a job.
A soft chuckle crossed her lips at his assumption. How apt the phrasing was. "Indeed." She wished she could tell him just how much she didn't like that, how many expectations she had to overcome. "Being the youngest sometimes does have its disadvantages." Since Paxton was one of the youngest in his family he might have some idea of what she meant, but it was also as close to admitting the truth as she could get.
She took a sip of her champagne to push away the complicated feelings of her statement.
"I will be joining the Spirit Division, like I have always wanted." It had been what he always wanted (aside from a stray few other 'dream jobs' that had probably never been actually practical) and he was pleased to have gotten a position within it. He hoped to help make Unlife a little better somehow for his father and ghosts like him.
"I suppose so but it must be different for me than it is for you. No one actually expects anything of me yet," Paxton said with a sympathetic smile. He was now considered an age that whilst he had to work due to not being a first son and of the middle class, he was free to make mistakes. Live his life. Have fun. While young woman who had been his yearmates would be expected to attempt marrying whilst Paxton was considered to not be of an age to marry. He almost blurted out that he rather didn't like the idea of her marrying anyone yet but held his tongue. He was aware enough to know that was not something one just said or even thought of another person.
