The plant that sat in front of him on the desk was going to be a flower, Silas could already tell. He had seen enough of them wandering in Mama's garden, which was okay as long as he kept to the stone paths. It was when he had to wander off of them, like when a toy landed among the planting beds, that the boy found himself in most trouble when it came to the flowers. Especially these little ones that had yet to bloom, disguising themselves as any ordinary plant whose leaves might grow back if he was foolish enough to step on them.
