Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Mama didn't raise no quitter, but she didn't say it would be so hard!

The young witch's face broke open in a peal of laughter, and quickly clamped it down with a hand pressed to her face. She couldn't hide the look of amusement over the rest of it, leaning back helplessly into the stiff-backed chair. "I'd thank you for the vote of confidence," she mustered out between drawing sharp breaths for control through her nose, "if becoming a dark wizard was truly my biggest problem to contend with."

Whatever Anne had done broke the spell of her misery, if only for a moment. Taking in one more breath, she could feel it moving through to fill her entire form, restoring the focus that would only come to her in fleeting waves. She took advantage, it would do her some good to think something positive about her future for once. Besides that, it would placate Anne's brimming anxiety and that could only help her own nerves. She reached forward to turn her friend's essay so she could read the scribbled notes written alongside.

"Well, looking at yours for inspiration, I suppose Charms and Defense classes most appeal to me," Millie remarked, casting a glance over at the Slytherin girl. "In your case, those might be similar enough to choose between them. I don't know if I'd study more transfiguration, what else is really left other than animagus and homunculi?"

She didn't feel like commenting any more on that, knowing Anne would have one of her own. Instead, the young witch looked beyond what her friend had written down to consider her own options instead. "I'd be glad to be rid of Ancient Runes, it's absolutely dry outside of puzzle solving. And all of the truly interesting parts we've talked about in Ancient Studies as well. There's just only so much little symbols can tell you about a culture's language and history before it's necessary to actually study them."

Millie took a moment, and her mouth nearly felt dry from all the talking. Is this what it was like to be chattering all the time? It was dreadful, having to wait and recuperate only between thoughts. To tidy herself up more quickly, she just asked, "Is there a required number of classes to take? I think that's three for me so far."
