Did You Know?
One of the cheapest homeless shelters in Victorian London charged four pennies to sleep in a coffin. Which was... still better than sleeping upright against a rope? — Jordan / Lynn
If he was being completely honest, the situation didn't look good, but Sylvano was not in the habit of being completely honest about anything. No reason to start now.

Flint Garden Ball

There were few areas in which women were superior to men, in Orson's estimation. Nurturing was one (his present companion largely excepted), brightening up a room another, but where they blew men altogether out of the water was their knowledge of the social goings-on in the world around them. Ten years was a long time away, and so Orson depended upon his sisters (his mother was a bit old for that, now) being prodigiously blessed in this arena to help him reacquaint himself with Society.

"What of Rowle?" he asked his sister, gesturing to a wizard stood dutifully by his wife and looking as though he wished to be anywhere else instead. "He is still head of transport, I know, but I am surprised he did not make moves for a higher position."

Orson himself had never had the patience for an actual career, nor, as his father's only son, the impetus for one, either.

Ursula was quite pleased to be the Flint sister overseeing their brother's reintroduction to society. Did she have exclusivity on this role? Not officially, but unofficially she was determined to make it so, even if only to spite her older sister.

Not all men can afford to be ambitious and he's always seemed a rather beige sort of fellow to me, it's just as well if he's recognized he's peaked in his career. She wasn't overly familiar with the man but she had her first impressions and few subsequent ones to work from. He was perfectly respectable but not of particular interest to her, at least not presently. But what would you know of ambition?

A less polite gentleman might have rolled his eyes at his sister; Orson cast her a wry smile.

"I know that it can wear many different hats," the wizard returned. Indeed, Orson might have shown more ambition if he had been indulged a bit less as a child, been less certain of his mother's relentless (and sometimes exhausting) affection. By the time their father had dug his claws in, Orson had already developed less grandiose goals. "Ambition for one's family, one's line, is far more dignified than political aims. After all, I do not know if you were aware, but I am," here, he adopted a bad imitation of their father, "the 'scion of the Flint family'."

As if Ursula could ever forget! The prodigal scion, perhaps, she teased. If she was honest, she thought it rather selfish of him to have spent so many years out of reach, out of British society. That wasn't to say she'd missed him, but perhaps she'd missed the idea of having a brother. Brothers had their uses from time to time. You ought to focus more of that familial ambition of yours into finding a new wife, dear brother, or else you shall be the end of our line. In name, at least. Unfortunately, none of my four sons can help with that. A pity really, she'd readily offer Phineas II up to him if it was a realistic option.

Orson's grimace lasted on his face only half a moment before he turned it back to a smile, though not so genuine as the one he had worn before. Their father had said something similar—though had seemingly omitted Ursula's four sons when he declared he would "like to have a grandson before his death"—and Orson knew it was not a matter that could be placed upon the back-burner forever. With no woman capable of living up to Zenobia, however, any such union would ring hollow, perfuctory. He had also seen what a bad woman could do.

"While I, regretfully, must agree with you," Orson said, "my extended absence has made it so that I would not even know where to begin on that score. Perhaps next Season," he offered, a half-measure.

Would that she could suggest Rufina as his next wife, but her foolish brother had had the poor sense to have a daughter first and while Rufina only had one child of her own (and thus had it rather easy in the childbearing department) she didn't really want to risk Rufina or the survival of the family line by engineering such a match. Not that Rufina was incapable, although maybe she was now? She generally didn't sit around dwelling on the intentional miscarriage that had nearly killed her friend several years ago, nor did she care to consider now that age might be a factor regardless for that meant considering her own age which was hard enough to do with Sirius swanning around graduating from Hogwarts and going on tours.

If I didn't know better, I should think you were trying to offend me. It was gentlemanly of him not to have taken the lion's share of intelligence and instead leave plenty for his younger sisters. But mainly her. Of course I shall help you, you needn't even ask, who better to find you a new wife than your favorite sister?
