NEWT charms class
The students walked through the door into the lesser used antechamber that had obviously been decorated to very closely resemble the great hall, it was a cavernous with tables all ready and in position for students and the walls adored with Slytherin banners as recent recipients of the house cup. That wasn't right, was it? Professor Bowen stood at the lectern waiting for them with a smile on her face. The more perceptive students would observe that something was missing from the recreation. Unlike in the great hall, the vaulted ceiling beams were not currently obscured by the permanent enchantment that usually filled the ceiling of the great hall. It made the whole room look quite stark above a certain height.
”Good morning NEWTs, welcome to the Great Hall. As you have probably noticed, the enchantment on the ceiling is missing.” she gestured upwards with her wand, following the beam down the centre of the room which ended above the door that now seemed larger than the one they came in by. ”Now, I do not expect any of you to miraculously have memorised an ancient enchantment cast by our founders, but today's challenge is to at least rebuild part of it using the skills you have already learned and a few new spells regarding charm persistence that will give them a little more staying power.” she gestured with her hand and manuscripts flew from a stack and landed at each of the seats the students had picked.
”The difference between an OWL charmer and a NEWT is that once you charm the world, the world remembers…Now observe.” she cast a spell from her wand, it was an orange whip of light, but the words and gesture she used was slightly different and instead of cracking then subsiding, the whip continued from the tip of her wand and coiled about like a serpent for many seconds before she flicked her wand again and it vanished.
”You may work alone or in groups as you please, your final group effort shall be assessed by much harsher critics than I as the OWL students shall be using this space tomorrow to conjure their lunch. she raised her eyebrows and grinned a challenge towards the group, the best and brightest students in the castle were going to have a lovely time with this project.
Please add the following code to your first post, it may or may not be used in class today, but it will also be used to build a long-term opinion of each student by the professor.

Greta listened to the professor and tried not to let her enthusiasm for learning over take her judgement. The idea of at least attempting to recreate the spell that displayed the sky on the ceiling appealed to her. The challenge was one that she bite into and would take her mind off the letter that she had recieved that Sunday - a magical disaster had struck Irvingly and had displaced or vanished the entire community. Her parents had assured her that they were fine and, along with Gilly, were staying in the settlement that had been created outside Hogsmeade. They hadn't seen Cam or Maddy but they were sure they were fine. Greta had no doubts about that.
She doubted even a dragon could take down her brother and with Maddy there to keep him sensible they'd probably just ended up somewhere safe and were probably not in a position yet to get in touch with their parents. So many of her fellow students were in worse off positions - some had been orphaned, some had lost family, and some still didn't know what was happening. She'd spent alot of time doing her Prefectly duties and trying to be the comforting voice of reason. She'd given the hugs, and been the shoulder to cry on and tried to be the support the badge said she ought to be. She also tried not to think about Cam and Maddy.
Her brother and step-sister would surely be fine. She couldn't imagine a world where that wasn't the case.
Sloane had seemingly died - Greta had attended her funeral and memories of breaking down and being comforted by Mrs. Pottts - that is Calla's mother and Millie's aunt - and she was back from the dead so it stood to reason her siblings disappearance would simply be more of the same. She refused to contemplate it or cry and instead would comfort others and go about her week as if everything was okay because it would be.
She studied the manuscript before her and wondered if she ought to form a group. The payoff may be harsher however there was truth in the saying that many hands made light work... and well, she wasn't sure she wanted to be alone with her thoughts right at that moment.
Me: Puts excellent in everything. Also me: Ooooooh the date. Whelp okay maybe not.
