Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Zipporah could never be accused as ever being wholly present in any given situation. Thus she had been more or less the more amenable to her new in laws. So long as Jemima did not display any miserable nature in front of Zipporah, the woman would not pick up on it. Far as she knew, Jemima'd had some sort of whirlwind romance that involved a closet. Though she at least knew the Ministers wife had caught Jemima with her beau and perhaps hastened things along by flapping her First Lady of the Wizarding World gums. Something like that.

She breezed into the Greengrass home and requested to see her sister. Situated in the parlour, Zipporah sat with a wrapped package in her lap, excited for her sister to open it. She had been working tirelessly on it for months!

Jemima’s life could be as much a whirlwind (or ongoing thunderstorm) as it could, but one thing could simply never be buffeted by it – Zipporah would always be the same. Perfectly herself, and perfectly oblivious to everything; she was worse than Noah at being lost in her own little world.

But this was nice, because if her sister was a constant, she was always a comfort and always cheerful enough to balance out Jemima’s neuroses. “Zippy!” she exclaimed, bundling her up into a hug in spite of her protruding bump. (When they had lived together, Zipporah had been equally likely to be an annoyance to her, but nowadays Jemima was pure affection towards her.)

Trying to hug her sister with the bump between them was always a little amusing. She could swear she felt a tiny kick against her own stomach. Oh, how odd! She couldn't imagine how it felt inside her sisters body. "My darling Jem! How are you doing? Is my little niece or nephew being nice to you?" She set aside her package for now so that she could focus more on her sister.

“I don’t know that I would say nice to me, exactly,” Jemima said, smiling in spite of her long-suffering sigh (because these kinds of conversations about the baby were easy to have, she was glad to be able to talk about it to anyone who might listen, never mind if poor Zipporah didn’t yet understand). “But kicking the stuffing out of me when I’m trying to sleep? They’re rather good at that.”

"Hey, you in there! Let my baby sister sleep," Zippy said 'to' Jemimas stomach. It still kind of eluded her as to how the whole child growing in ones self might feel. She imagined it must be a lot like when she had a too-large meal with too much cheese or something. Except food eventually went away but a baby stayed put and then continued to be around outside of the body. Wild.

Maybe she should find a husband to give her a baby so she could document how it felt for herself. Though maybe Jemima had documented it. She was known even beyond the family for keeping diaries, after all. "But at either rate, I have a gift for you. Or rather, for baby." She presented the wrapped box. Inside lay a rattle that Zipporah had made herself through a mix of muggle means of welding and charm work that would have the rattle display sparkling lights on the wall and ceiling as it was shaken. And of course had the typical sound of a rattle but Zippy had thought that too basic of a feature.

It was hard not to smile in Zippy’s company, ever or today. Somehow she made everything feel so light and full of whimsy – Merlin, Jemima had missed her. (She ought to try and be more like her sister, if she could.)

“Oh, you didn’t,” she enthused, taking the box Zippy passed her. “Can I open it now? Or must I wait?” She was sure she could hear a noise from the box, when it moved – so she was not much inclined to wait for the baby to be born before she opened it.

"You can open it now," Zippy said with a laugh. It would have been too cruel of her to present a gift that her sister would have to wait months for. Besides, it would do the pending mother good to have something to cheer her and perhaps look forward to using. At least that was what Zipporah would want should she ever actually end up in the family way. (That required noticing men existed first.)
