Do muggles know about wizards?

Please could you clarify whether or not muggles know about magic/wizards in 1890, or if only specific muggles know / to what extent etc?

Despite the uproar in 1877 with the queen, only muggles with magical family and/or residents of Irvingly know of wizards.

We still very much operate under the Statute of Secrecy :)
