Zinnia held her breath as Mr. Alderton helped release her sleeve where the branch had caught her, although once he stepped back she turned toward him, offering him a soft smile. “Then I suppose I’ll have to count it as half a rescue,” she gently teased him. “You did save me from a most fearsome tree.” It was probably related to the rose bush that he’d gotten caught in earlier.
She giggled lightly as she dipped her head in return to his bow. “Safe travels Mr. Alderton. Any time I fall into peril, I’ll be sure to be on the lookout for you.” The corners of her mouth curved as she watched him turn down the fork. Then Zinnia turned around to come back the way she came. She’d gotten her fill of Padmore Park for today and was ready to return home.
