You & Astrology & Your Characters -
Holly Scrimgeour - June 12, 2020
You guys might not know it, but I'm a
huge astrology nut. I can't say that I base my life around it, but I love reading birth charts and figuring out what planetary positions correlate to certain events and personality traits. I use it in the same way I use Myers-Briggs personality types, really.
That being said, do you:
- Like astrology? Follow it in your daily life?
- What's your sign (& your big three if you know it!)
- Use it when creating a character?
- Care about it whatsoever?
And also:
- Do your characters line up with their signs?
- Do YOU line up with your sign?

Me
1.) I looove Astrology. I don't base my whole life around it, but I do read my daily horoscope for fun just to see if any of it's accurate at the end of the day. xD
2.) I'm a Virgo! I always get Capricorn as my Moon Sign and Aquarius as my Rising, but this is not 100% accurate as I don't know my official time of birth.
3.) Absolutely! I use
this site whenever I make a new character.
The Characters
1.) More or less. I do tweak some personality traits here and there if I think it fits the character better.
2.) There are some days when I do feel like I align with my sign, and then there are days when I don't. xD

1. I loooove astrology but in the way you said, as in a fancy personality test. Idt I'll find a boyfriend because of my planetary positions.
2. I'm a Capricorn sun, a Taurus moon and an Aquarius ascendant. I can say that I do represent those signs. I am very practical and cynical and materialistic and like luxury etc but I do also have a more eccentric side to me which I would owe to the Aquarius.
3. Yeah, most of the time! I made Seneca a Capricorn on purpose. She couldn't really be any other sign.
That being said, I do have some characters whose birthdays I picked at random or because they had to be born in a particular month, so their sign doesn't really work. Ellory is a prime example of that. She's a Taurus, which really doesn't fit her tbh. I would say she is an Aquarius.
I made Ruby a gemini because lol twins. Idk if she's a gemini. She's more of a Pisces
Meta is Aries which I would say fits her really well. Otherwise I'd say she's a Leo.
Cee is a virgo which doesn't really fit her but she had to be born on August 29th so let's pretend she gets her personality from her moon and ascending signs. I would say she is an Aquarius, an Aries or a Saggitarius.
Marcus is Libra which really fits him.

ummmm *bookmarks*
I'm a Taurus/Aries/Leo! I don't like my moon sign and would rather have a Capricorn or a Virgo moon tbh.
I made so many of my characters before I got into astrology, so they don't really match? But some surprisingly do.
Holly is a Scorpio: persistent, vindictive, and manipulative, and ambitious. Bella is also a Scorpio, but is more driven by her hypersensitivity and intensity. Archie is also a Scorpio, but I think he'd have been a better Cancer.
Frida is a Taurus: hardworking and patient. Helga's also a Taurus and embodies more of the negative traits associated with Tauruses: extravagance and materialism.
Cammie is a Gemini: open-minded, cheerful, but also has a poor attention span.
I purposefully made Charity a Virgo to highlight her perfectionist, attention to detail, and her meticulousness, but also her anxiety. Finny, while not purposefully an Aries, was made to have an April Fools birthday and it fits him well!
If I'd made Handsome now I'd probably have made him a Sagittarius over a Capricorn. I also would have made Dionisia a Capricorn instead of an Aquarius, Eldin a Gemini over a Libra, Flora a Leo over a Capricorn.

Atticus Lilywick - June 12, 2020
It's nothing I follow closely, but despite most people saying it's something that is vague enough that no matter what is said it could apply to you, I do believe my personal sign matches me better then any of the others. I'm a Pisces, and most of the things I can read about it really do apply to me very well: artistic (i've been drawing since I could hold a pencil), emotional/sensitive (hahahaha YES), daydreamer (i've literally walked into things before while walking my dog because I'm off in my own little world), inability to say no, enjoys being alone, etc.
As far as characters, it's actually something I've started taking into account since coming back. Once I hit that birthday slot I'll spend probably about 20 minutes or so googling signs (since I know nothing xD) and going thru all of them to make sure I'm picking the one that's 100% the most like them. There's actually a youtuber I watch whose sign is an Aries (Julien Solomita - Aries Kitchen), and he is just pure chaos and childish joy and honestly just from watching him I knew Atticus HAD to be an Aries. After reading into the sign more too I feel like it was BY FAR the most fitting sign as well. Clementine shares a lot of my own personal traits so she was obviously a shoe in for the Pisces sign in my mind xD.

Ellory Lestrange - June 12, 2020
I decided to find moon signs for all of my people based on the site Miri shared
Cee:
Sun - Virgo
Show
Ravenclaw Virgos are skeptical, analytical, mathematically oriented, and sharp witted. Many become great magi, alchemists, and astrologers. These people love ideas and theoretical discussion, and their leaps of intuition can be uncanny. The Earth element makes them shrewd and pragmatic, and keeps them from flying off into cloudcuckooland.
Moon - Leo spoke to me so that
Show
Ravenclaw Leos are brilliant scholars, loudly adding to classroom discussions and impressing others with the breadth, if not depth, of their knowledge. Many find themselves attracted, as well, to positions on the Quidditch team, partly because this lets them use their abundant energy, partly because it allows them to hog the limelight for a few hours while everybody in their House cheers them on. Their optimism and charisma make them friends everywhere, regardless of House affiliation, and their creativity makes them highly inventive in the laboratory. On the other hand, they are prone to fat egos and intellectual arrogance, and this can be intensely annoying. Emotional maturity will eventually teach them that they don't know everything, and sometimes it's best to let other people speak up and take the credit.
Ruby:
Sun - Gemini
Show
You'll need track shoes to keep up with these Geminis. They have so much energy that they exhaust nearly everyone, save other Gryffindor Geminis. In class, they love to get into debates with the professor. Out of class, they love to get into trouble. These Gryffindor Geminis are as easily stirred by romantic dreams and noble causes as any other Gryffindors, although their involvement is more mental than practical - they lack the fortitude for battle and are best left passing propaganda to the real warriors. Expect a large number of them to work for the Daily Prophet after graduation.
Moon - Pisces
Show
While not the bravest of Gryffindors, the Gryffindor Pisces still exhibits a quiet courage. They aren't afraid to face painful truths, if there really is no way of escaping them. These Gryffindors are deeply compassionate, and full of emotional strength, often becoming the unofficial counselors in the common room who everybody runs to for advice. They are romantic to an extreme; their minds are stuffed full of fairy tales, myths, and legends. They often spend more time daydreaming than doing their homework, to the vexation of their professors. Still, their daydreams do sometimes produce uncanny insights.
Ellory:
Sun - Taurus
Show
These wizards will be less hot headed and apt to charge at windmills than other Gryffindors, for Taurus is an earth sign, and the element of Earth adds a pragmatic streak to even the flightiest of wizards. As with all Taureans, though, if a Gryffindor Taurus is pushed hard enough, she will exhibit a volcanic temper. Gryffindors born under this sign will be exceptionally loyal to their friends, and will have high standards of personal integrity.
Moon - Aquarius
Show
Gryffindor Aquarians are the social activists and loons of their House. They'll picket for House Elf Liberation. They'll wear their robes inside out because they spent all night reading, not pay attention to how they dressed the next day, and not care if their rumpled appearance is pointed out to them. They are intellectual rebels and will loudly defend their opinions, even if doing so makes enemies. They are apt to question authority. "Even Merlin was wrong, some of the time," they'll say, shrugging. While not particularly good at dealing with crisis situations (they stress out easily) they do tend to have enough foresight to see the situations coming, and prevent them from happening in the first place. They can be flamboyantly talented, but are less interested in using their talent to "make it big" than in using it to make a better life for themselves or other people. Because Gryffindor tends to be a flamboyant house, these oddballs (they are always odd) tend to stick out for being unusual.
Meta:
Sun - Aries
Show
The Gryffindor Aries is extremely idealistic, and has a tendency to fight hard for many causes - the more lost, the better. Gryffindors born under this sign will also have very short fuses, and can be expected to fight regularly with other students, over ethical questions or over anything else that makes a good excuse. Since Mars is a planet that encourages war games and competition and bursts of hard physical activity, there may be many Quidditch players born under these aspects. A Gryffindor Aries is an open book; a truth potion would never be needed on one, because they are hopelessly honest and open. These wizards will display uncanny charisma and leadership ability, and will be among the most popular within their class.
Moon - Scorpio
Show
Expect stamina, incredible courage, intense and stormy emotions, burning idealism, and indomitable will. Gryffindor Scorpios are never drawn in shades of pastel; they are always blood red and mesmerizing gold. There are few followers born under these aspects; Scorpios born into this house tend to be either leaders or loners. They are well placed on the Quidditch field, where their natural competitive streak and their great store of personal energy make them natural Beaters (or, really, naturals at any position on the field). Expect them to get into frequent duels, and expect them to gravitate naturally to DADA, for all Scorpios are fascinated by anything dark and forbidden, and Gryffindor Scorpios will want to take their place as defenders as early in their careers as possible. Expect passion. Expect wisdom. But don't expect a lot of time to take a breather. Many people born under this aspect also end up as Aurors; they're the perfect "bad cops" to the "good cop" Libra wizards.

Ursula Black - June 12, 2020
I l o v e astrologyyyyy. I actually put my housemate to sleep on Saturday reading astrology stuff to her. Also I think she was just tired in general it was late. Also my New Horizons island is called Pisceana :P Nowadays I will obsess over astrology while also being incredibly cynical about it. I've often felt like contradiction of myself because I'm definitely very Pisces but also I can be really in the moment and feisty and stuff. Well I was 7 1/2 hours away from being an Aries, I AM LIVING THAT CUSP LIFE. I've only recently started looking into cusp stuff so it still has novelty to me so please bear with my ARIES ENTHUSIASM. I will not lie to you, the "cusp of rebirth" thing and being right at the end and the beginning of the zodiac does make me feel really cool and it has gone directly to my head.
Anyway, my moon sign is Cancer (funnily enough my mom is a Pisces and my dad is a Cancer) and my rising sign is Virgo.
I didn't used to use astrology for character birthdates, I used to just pick a random month and number out of the ether but for the last few years I've gone with star signs.
Ursula's a Taurus which either is really on point or kinda not really at all. However Miri's house zodiac site suggests Ursula's in the right place.
Tig is probably the most accurate of my random birthdate allocations as she's a Leo and it suits her perfectly.
Ada is basically my Pisces self unadulterated by my cusp baggage but I made her a Pisces specifically because of that.
Hesper used to be a Scorpio or a Sagittarius but she's a Virgo now and I think it suits her pretty well. I didn't choose her retconned birthdate for her star sign though.
Charles is a Gemini and I think I made him one because of that negative stereotype about Gemini's being two-faced asscandles. He is on the cusp of Taurus though and Ursula's hanging out there and they definitely have a lot in common. *cough*neuroses*cough*
Nova is a Scorpio because I had to make her birthday November 1st and damn does Scorpio just not fit.
Thea's a Sagittarius/Capricorn cusp and I'm pretty sure I purposely made her a Sagittarius.
Pet is a Cancer and not a very good one because that was a random birthdate.
Spryly is an Aquarius and I don't think it's the worst sign but again I think this might've been a random birthdate that I didn't modify when I retconned.

I know I'm
Sun: Virgo
Moon: Aquarius
Ascendant: Aquarius
I am def a Virgo. I was SUPER into astrology and tarot as a teenager, and finding that I had water signs was a surprise, because at the time I was super into my earthy connections!
I was def more into tarot than astrology. I still have my tarot cards.
I didn't use specific signs for my characters! I have enough trouble working out their age vrs their date of birth as it is, I usually pick a date that's easy for me to calculate at that moment (and I still get it wrong a lot! )
RE: You & Astrology & Your Characters -
Calla Potts - June 12, 2020
I do not follow astrology at all! I cant tell you I'm a pisces and that is it. And I only know that because so many people would ask me and I got tired of saying I have no clue. As far as for making characters, nope. I might look it up in passing but that's just because I put it on their pinterest boards because aesthetics. Beyond that, I don't use it at all for character creation and what not.
Some of my characters probably would be interested in it though, I know Demelza would. Beyond know who might have a vague interest I'll have to look stuff up later to see what character is what sign and if I think it matches.
