It's Not That Bad, Right? - Sybille Lukeson - January 25, 2019

January 8th, 1889

Dear Ace & Avril,

School is off to a horrible start. Everything was going so well over break and then this girl’s diary got stolen when we got back to school. She’s an older girl in my house and I didn’t think much of it. But she wrote the most awful things about everyone in school. Everyone is talking about it. I’ve only met the girl once and she helped me find the kitchens, if you remember me mentioning it. But she wrote in her journal that it was awfully odd that I like baking and now everyone is whispering about me. Even Jolie is giving me weird looks. It’s not that weird is it? That I love to bake. I am so sorry to hear about such a horrible experience. Not everyone is open-minded and kind, which is a sad truth. Your baking is wonderful, and it is always good to do what makes you happy - within reason of course. Baking is certainly not harming anyone. Well, unless you get burned. But I do hope that you are taking care to keep yourself safe around ovens of course. People are just bored with their own lives, so poke fun at others to make themselves feel better. It's an awful practice that I am glad you do not participate in.

Perhaps send the girl some cookies. With her own diary going around, I'm sure she feels awful as well. Kindness is always good to warm the hearts of others. And I know that your baked goods are full of love and kindness. Take care, Sybille. I do hope that classes are going well. Are you making friends? I'd be surprised if you haven't.

I hope you are right, but still doesn’t seem fair that they might be mad about my baking. No one ever seems upset when ladies like potions.

I will make her some cookies, but I do hope she doesn’t write anything nasty about them. Do you think she will? What kind do you think she would like?
