Botanical Warfare - Cordelia Emsworth - April 13, 2025

April 12th, 1895 - Cordelia's London Townhouse

"He tried to take the dogs!" Cordelia couldn't believe she hadn't yet gotten a chance to regale Sina with Hadrian's latest hairbrained scheme. It had been nearly six months since her ex-husband had tried to make off with their previously shared dogs and Delia had been seething for a few weeks after, but in the aftermath of trying to secure finding and then the holidays, everything had gotten lost in the fray.

They were sitting at her little kitchen table, tea and a little sampling of sandwiches between them. Delia knew her reputation post-divorce had lost her friends, but she was glad Sina had stuck around, especially after her husband had been elected minister. Dee would have understood if Sina had to keep her distance, but she was grateful for the friendship regardless. "Had the gall to pretend he was there for some of his things. Clearly he hadn't been missing what was in the house, otherwise he would have made an effort sooner." It was appalling really. Delia couldn't pinpoint if she was more frustrated by his nerve or by the fact that he could still rile her up so much.

"I do not know how he could possibly have thought that would work," she huffed, bringing her tea to her pursed lips.

Thomasina had not borne Hadrian Nott particular ill-will before the divorce, but she certainly did now — if a man got to keep a decent reputation and most of the property and wealth in a divorce, then a woman got to keep the dogs, especially if the man was as reckless as Hadrian Nott was.

"I'm starting to think that he's not very smart," Sina said archly, after a sip of tea. "Have you done anything to demonstrate his gall to him?"

(Obviously, vengeance would have to be had.)

Delia snorted. Once upon a time she would have viciously defended Hadrian from any negative comments, but honestly, so much had happened that she couldn't even find the energy to drum up a contesting comment. "I made a right fool of him at the time, but it likely won't stop him from trying something foolish again." Foolish ought to be Hadrian Nott's middle name.

"Do you think I should?" Delia had been plenty embarrassed throughout their mostly messy divorce; it was part of the reason that she'd taken her maiden name back, so she was not above revenge, but she wasn't sure just how much energy she wanted to spend on Hadrian these days. She had far more pressing matters to attend to with Cindy and securing the last of her needs for a trip to India.

"You have to know how I feel about vengeance," Thomasina replied with a conspiratorial smile. That is: positive. "And he shall have to be dissuaded." Thomasina did not have dogs — she was not much of a pet person beyond owls — but Cordelia was rather fond of hers, so they would have to make sure that Hadrian wouldn't go ahead and steal her dogs again.

Also, Sina needed things to do that weren't 'throwing parties.'

Delia certainly knew how Sina felt about vengeance. It was something Delia had always liked about her, especially in the wake of her divorce. She did agree too, that Hadrian ought to have some healthy level of fear where it came to her. Less likely to pull something. Merlin how things had changed. Once upon a time she would have never dreamed to be at this point in her life, had always figured her marriage a forever sort of thing, but life had a funny way of throwing a bludger into the expected path.

"What do we think might be appropriate?" It couldn't be too overt or noticeable, and she didn't really want to hurt him, just something immensely annoying. Something itchy perhaps. Delia sipped at her tea idly, hoping Sina had some stroke of brilliance.

Thomasina hummed, took a sip of her tea, and considered. "He could use a new hair color," she suggested, because Hadrian seemed to be confident enough that vanity had to be involved. (That Sina had liked him fine before the Notts got divorced was best not thought about it.) "Something — bright and unnatural."

RE: Botanical Warfare - Cordelia Emsworth - June 7, 2025

Delia snorted out a laugh that was the most unladylike. "He is obsessed with his looks." She had always thought him charming and the devilishly handsome face was just part of the package. That said, he was vain enough that it would be a blow to his ego. "Too easy to fix, we need something that hits home a little more." Besides, he would somehow manage to make a new fashion trend if they tried that.

"I'd like to inconvenience him like he did to me." Showing up at the house like that, what nerve! "Something he'll struggle to remedy." She knew enough about plants that it had to be that route, but honestly she wasn't sure what would work. "Have you seen anything at the hospital we could use?" Delia was bent on getting him back somehow.

Hair dye was a classic, but Cordelia was right — her former husband would find some way to make it work for him. She rested her chin in her palm and thought about her artifacts. "I have a pair of handcuffs," Sina said, after a beat. "They're cursed — won't release someone unless they offer up a truly-meant apology to someone they've wronged."

RE: Botanical Warfare - Cordelia Emsworth - August 5, 2025

"Sina!" The whisper was exaggerated, and her expression said she was far more scandalized than she let on. "Why on Earth do you have those?" What a thing to have! Honestly! It was both amusing and a little terrifying.

Regardless, it didn't fit. "I want to sorely inconvenience him, I think we're long past actual apologies." Though she had never gotten a real one from him after the incident, she also didn't think she ever would.

RE: Botanical Warfare - Thomasina Dempsey - August 11, 2025

Sina shrugged her shoulders. "We see a lot of things in the artifacts department," she said. Sometimes, she kept them, if she was particularly intrigued. She contemplated their options. "Itching powder? Haunt the button on his drawers? A necktie that gets tighter whenever he says something annoying?" Personally, Sina was fond of the drawers — she had to believe that Hadrian Nott was rather infatuated with his own manhood.

RE: Botanical Warfare - Cordelia Emsworth - August 25, 2025

If it was a necktie that tightened any time he said something stupid, he'd be dead in less than ten minutes. Tempting. Well, no, she didn't want him dead, just thoroughly inconvenienced.

"Just how would one haunt a trouser button?" She was thoroughly amused by that prospect. Surely there had to be some creative jinx. One that would be hard to identify. He'd figure out itching powder or something of the sort rather easily, mostly because he was a bit of a jokester himself, less because of any actual cleverness on his end.

RE: Botanical Warfare - Thomasina Dempsey - August 31, 2025

"It either comes undone or refuses to come undone at — inconvenient times," Sina said, with a smirk. "The last victim brought himself in after he soiled himself. It would require you to switch one of his buttons out."

But Thomasina did not doubt Cordelia's ability to get into Hadrian's bedroom if she wanted to, whether or not he was aware of her presence.

This was creatively evil. Delia liked it. Just inconvenient enough that it would frustrate him, but innocuous enough that he would likely think it was him that was having a problem. "I'm sure I have some of his old clothes somewhere." Even though he'd come to the house to steal the dogs and get some of his things, Delia kept finding more amongst her own expedition supplies and she had yet to reach out to give them back. Never mind that she had purposefully kept one of his favorite shirts for herself, for... reasons.

"This is delightfully delinquent, I applaud your creativity." She mused, raising her tea in salute.
