RE: when you're stuck inside the dark;; - Seojin Jeong - November 13, 2025
Smiling had never come easily to Jin. Even now with a consistently warm expression plastered onto his face, he sometimes felt a little bit ridiculous. But Ahn-Bo-ah gave him a reason to want to smile, be it from genuine happiness or in an effort to reassure or both. As he studied his friend’s softened expression, Jin felt the pinch in his chest release mildly and he realized just how necessary his coming here had been. Regardless of whatever happened in the future, and whatever bad choices or mistakes might be made along the way— Ahn-Bo-ah needed him, and for the first time in his life, Jin felt like he was giving back just as much as he’d received after all these years.
His heart spluttered at the reverent little nickname, and Jin leaned into Bo-ah’s touch as a hand settled on his cheek. He welcomed the kiss that followed with his whole heart and practically melted into a liquid pool of sentiment in his friend’s lap— no. Not friend. Aein. His dearest and most beloved, treasure (Bo-ah).
His left hand tightened on Ahn-Bo’s, and the right settled on whatever part of Ahn-Bo-ah’s jeogori he could reach. It was an unconscious movement, meant only to tug him closer than insinuate anything else, and Jin sighed into the contact gently. He’d missed this just as much as he’d missed Ahn-Bo. The mere idea of being able to snuggle into the same bedroll (and shamelessly steal his warmth all night), undisturbed, was all Jin wanted. He pulled away to breathe for a fraction of a second and kissed Ahn-Bo’s nose as he went. “Aein,” he hummed, tasting the word for the first time. It was sickly sweet on his tongue and Jin kissed Ahn-Bo again before it could stick. Then he tucked his whole face into the wolf’s shoulder and grinned, hiding a deep blush that had settled on his features. Spirits, had he always been this embarrassingly sentimental?

Jin welcomed the kiss just as much as he always had. With their eyes closed and clinging to each other, it finally felt like it had before. They could have been anywhere—sneaking kisses in the music classroom as the sun rose, in their hanok, or in the yomogi field they’d discovered in their fifth year. For a moment, he let himself believe that everything would be alright. As long as they were together, they would figure it out.
Jin kissed him again and then a playfully sweet one on his nose. "Aein.” Ahn-Bo’s eyes popped open in surprise. They’d never put a specific term to what they were to each other. It had seemed… presumptive, he supposed, given what his future was supposed to have been. Although secretly, he’d thought of Jin as his simkung—his crush, although it had grown into far more than that over the years.
The wolf hadn’t had time to react before his aein was bashfully ducking into his shoulder. His blush was so deep that it had even spread to the back of his neck. It was then that Ahn-Bo smiled, his heart thundering in his chest and his insides going completely gooey. "Aein," he agreed with the smile in his voice and pressed a kiss to the top of Jin’s head.
He hadn’t thought about Dae Min-Jee once… although now he realized he was free from her. (And she from him.) There wasn’t anyone dictating his future with their own expectations. For the first time, his future was in his own hands. Maybe there was a future that involved them being together, after all. Ahn-Bo pulled back just enough to meet his vampire’s eyes, feeling lighter already. "Ije jaja."
Ije jaja: “let’s sleep now”
RE: when you're stuck inside the dark;; - Seojin Jeong - November 13, 2025
The sound of Ahn-Bo’s heartbeat thundered in Jin’s sensitive ears, especially pressed up this close to his friend’s chest. It sounded like an echo of his own that he could feel pounding away in embarrassment. But for the first time, things felt normal. He could hear the smile in Ahn-Bo’s voice and, in spite of himself, Jin forced a peek so he could take it in for all its radiant warmth. It was even better than he remembered. It contorted sad features into the familiar, handsome quidditch player Jin had met so many years ago. He had a slightly different look, given the hair, but that was easily fixed in time. Jin smiled back shyly.
At mention of going to sleep, he nodded. The fire was starting to peter out into embers and he was eager to curl up next to the live sun he adored so much. Flopping back with a grin, he pulled the bedroll up to his chin and wiggled his feet expectantly. Sleep was fraying at the edges of his consciousness but his heart was still thundering from the implication of being so close to his— aein. (Jin’s mind tripped over the word again, but it felt right. Natural, maybe.) “Gaja,” he encouraged lightly, giving Ahn-Bo a small tug.
When they were finally horizontal, Jin turned on his side to face Ahn-Bo-ah. He tucked one arm under his head and the other under his cheek so he could look right at the other as he adjusted for sleep. When they were settled, Jin kissed the tip of his nose again and sighed softly. “I want to stay just like this,” he admitted, pointlessly. It was as much a confession to not wanting to go back as it was to just, literally, stay curled up in bed for the next four days. Abeoji wouldn’t expect him sooner and the portkey wouldn’t work anyway. At least they had this time for themselves though. Jin couldn’t help but feel they’d earned it.

Ahn-Bo Jeong
Ahn-Bo had seen Jin’s bedtime antics countless times before. Each time was just as endearing as the last, and this one was no exception. He was tugged to lie down (which he did promptly.) Once they were tucked between the soft layers of bedding and the warm winter blankets, they were nearly nose to nose, lying in near-perfect mirrored images of each other.
The kiss and soft sigh were enough to nudge him a step closer to sleep. Jin could easily reach him, which meant that he could easily reach Jin. Ahn-Bo scooted to close the small gap between their bodies, wrapping the arm beneath his chin loosely around his aein's waist. "This is better,” he told him with a sleepy sigh of his own. With Jin’s scent and warmth surrounding him from all sides, his belly full, and his soul thawing, it would be easy enough to close his eyes and drift off to sleep.
RE: when you're stuck inside the dark;; - Seojin Jeong - November 13, 2025
Bo-ah snuggled closer and Jin felt himself respond instinctually, reaching out to curl his fingers into the front of his aein’s jeogori. While yes they were certainly close enough to reach one another in the middle of the night, he wasn’t taking any chances. It was more comfortable this way, and soothed the silly anxiety Jin still felt that Ahn-Bo might disappear when he woke up. “Ne,” he mumbled sleepily, stifling a yawn. Then, Jin inclined his head so that his temple was pressing against Ahn-Bo’s and closed his eyes. In a heartbeat, he was asleep.
The evening passed quickly. This was the first time in many months Jin actually felt himself get decent rest and manage to fall, and stay, happily asleep. He didn’t move at all other than to scoot closer, subconsciously, as Ahn-Bo rolled over onto his back at some point. That was how Jin awoke, with his cheek pressed into Bo-ah’s chest rising and falling evenly.
The cave was still dark around them, the fire having completely gone out, and only the first whispers of dawn had begun to emerge. They’d fallen asleep rather early so Jin didn’t feel the same hesitation he usually did from the early hour; this time his hesitation was in moving at all and potentially waking Ahn-Bo-ah up. He was warm and comfortable, snuggled into the wolf’s side and laying atop two plush bedrolls. There was nothing that could probably ever replace this as his favorite place to be - give or take the cave - and Jin pressed his nose into Bo-ah’s chest, smiling stupidly to himself.
He lay there for a little while just listening to the even sound of Ahn-Bo’s breathing. It might have been odd to some, but Jin had missed it so much he couldn’t tear himself away. Neither could he bear to wake the other. So instead, he waited until he noted the first signs of Bo-ah’s stirring and only then did Jin shift. Which… in itself might have been a slight miscalculation.
Originally his plan had been to wake up early and tidy up, maybe prepare breakfast, and only then nudge the sleepy wolf awake. Bo-ah needed his rest after the long months he’d had, and if Jin had held himself to this more disciplined plan, he might have saved them both the embarrassment of what came next. But he hadn’t, and so he flushed warmly as realization dawned. Scooting himself a slight distance away from Ahn-Bo, Jin shoved whatever fabric of the bedroll he could between them. He smiled sheepishly as the other stirred again at the abrupt movement. “Annyeonghi jumuseyo,” he hummed sheepishly.

Ahn-Bo Jeong
While he didn’t sleep soundly through the night, whenever he woke, he would snuggle closer to Jin. It wouldn’t take long to become drowsy again and fall fast asleep. At one point he had woken to realize he’d rolled onto his back - and it was Jin-a who was the one reaching for him, even in his sleep. Ahn-Bo had cuddled closer instinctively, and it was in this position that his eyes fluttered open. The sun had begun its slow climb, the cave still dark and cozy during the hour between night and day.
The vampire shifted against him, and it became apparent very quickly that not only was Jin awake, but so was something else of his. Ahn-Bo was still dragging himself from the heavy layers between sleep and consciousness. It was with some confusion he felt his aein startle away from him and jerkily shift the blankets to put space between them.
He turned his head toward where Jin had scurried, blinking owlishly a few more times before he was awake enough to use his brain. And it was then that he realized that just like Jin, there was another part of him that had woken too. Thankfully, Jin’s scrambling and the double layer of blankets helped hide it (or so he hoped), replying with his own sheepish, “Joeun achim.” The casual version of good morning. Ahn-Bo feigned stretching so he could roll away from view and adjust himself (hopefully Jin wasn’t looking, but he couldn’t be sure.)
His voice was raspy from sleep as he tossed lightly over his shoulder as a distraction, “When will you speak casually Jin-a?” After all, he’d just been plastered up against Ahn-Bo with his—that thought did nothing to help with his own situation however, as a tiny zing raced up his spine.
RE: when you're stuck inside the dark;; - Seojin Jeong - November 14, 2025
The sleepy, adorable look Ahn-Bo gave him as he blinked awake didn’t exactly help Jin’s situation. He wanted so badly to curl back into Ahn-Bo’s side and not care about whatever his body was trying to tell him; they could kiss languidly and just remain in this happy little moment forever— but that was not the reality of the blazing embarrassment etched all over his face like a beacon. Jin had always dreamed about Ahn-Bo, ever since he was young and they’d first met. For awhile he didn’t understand why but slowly, as he’d aged and recognized that his affections were more than just platonic, the dreams had evolved along with his realization. Last night he hadn’t had any dreams that he remembered but… well. (It made him feel a little bit better that Ahn-Bo-ah seemed to have the same problem, pretend otherwise as he might try.)
Wrinkling his nose and blushing harder at the offhanded little comment, Jin mumbled something that sounded suspiciously along the lines of ‘a means of distraction.’ He normally did speak informally, for the most part, unless he was trying to make a point or, here, draw attention away from something he was awkward or embarrassed about.
Deciding he’d have better luck just getting up, Jin rolled himself up to a seat and scrunched the bedroll in his lap. Instantly the cold air of the cave dampened his energy a bit and the little vampire shivered. It was almost worse to be cold, the thought grumpily. Not almost. Definitely.
Jin raised one hand to rub the sleep from his face as he let his hormones settle. He pointedly looked anywhere but at the wolf he wanted to kiss and instead his gaze caught on the scattering of letters that remained unopened all over the cave. Part of him knew they were his and the stubborn side of Jin that refused to acknowledge these past few months apart dismissed it. He would deal with that later. Instead, he looked towards the dishes they’d left out the evening before. He’d tidy those first.
But reluctance to be more cold kept Jin from moving. He finally turned back towards Ahn-Bo and relaxed the tension in his shoulders, his little problem having mostly passed. It was then that a teasing, if still sheepish grin, stretched across his face. It would be terrible to acknowledge the truth out loud and his face was already warm from the thought, but it was worse to just ignore it. So Jin nudged Ahn-Bo with his toe and laughed lightly. At least they hadn’t made a mess.

His little attempt at distraction was a failure—Jin-a even called him out on it in his mumbled response. The sound of his bedmate rustling the covers as he sat up signaled to Ahn-Bo that the embarrassing moment had ended. Or was winding down at least. He would wait here until Jin was shuffling about. By then, enough time would have passed that it would be safe to leave the bed too.
Except no further shuffling happened, and he could still feel the vampire next to him. Ahn-Bo turned toward his back just enough so he could see what he was doing. At first, Jin’s focus flit around the cave. When it landed on the letters, he stiffened. Ahn-Bo bit his bottom lip. He hadn’t feel guilty over his choice to ignore them until this moment. It was more difficult to be selfish when the person you had hurt was right next to you.
When his vampire had turned back toward him, he had fully expected a question about it. But nothing was said at all. Instead, there was merely a playful, knowing grin. Ahn-Bo huffed in amusement. It seemed neither of them had thought about what waking up together might look like—not in this way, at least. He’d definitely thought of waking up together before… and that thought was the opposite of helpful.
Jin’s shoulders were hunched forward from the cold air. Ahn-Bo took advantage of his reluctance to leave, reaching for his arm to tug him back down beside him with a small grin of his own, “Come back.” If Jin wasn’t going to move further away, then he needed to be as close as possible. Now.

When Bo-ah rolled back towards him, Jin was still grinning stupidly in his embarrassment but humor had overridden the worst of it. He could see the remnants of amusement or embarrassment or both on the wolf’s face too, but Ahn-Bo didn’t seem to mind much. In fact, he reached out to tug Jin back towards him and the little vampire went more than willingly. Cold or not, he’d have done just about anything to snuggle again, but even better that Bo-ah was a literal sun when he felt like a frozen— rock. (Pun not intended.)
Biology forgotten, Jin tugged the bedroll up to his shoulders as he leaned back to curl up in his aein’s side. “Yeogi isseoyo,” he replied, but it was more of a content sigh than any kind of reassurance as he tucked his cold nose into the crook of Ahn-Bo’s neck. Only then did Jin let out a soft hum that sounded suspiciously like a whine. (But wasn’t, because at eighteen he certainly didn’t do that. Anymore.) He moved to press every inch of himself against Ahn-Bo and clung to him, arm thrown over the handsome wolf’s chest. “I’m never moving again,” he mumbled. “This is how we both perish, right here like this.”

Jin-a returned willingly, pressing himself as close to Ahn-Bo as he could—including his nose, which felt as if Jin had just shoved an icicle against his warm neck. “Aigoo,” he yelped in surprise, though quickly wrapped his arms around the vampire before he could pull away. He’d thought the whine was related to his reaction until Jin spoke.
He huffed a small laugh again, giving his aein a tight squeeze just because. ”As fate intended.” Spending an evening with Jin-a already had given him some semblance of himself back. He had a reason to smile, and laugh, and feel. Ahn-Bo clucked tongue against his teeth then as a different thought came to mind. “Though I wouldn’t mind perishing like this either-“ His palm cupped the vampire’s chin, holding it in place so he could kiss him softly. He pulled back then with a shadow of a grin to hear what Jin’s verdict was.
RE: when you're stuck inside the dark;; - Seojin Jeong - November 14, 2025
Jin snickered belatedly at Ahn-Bo’s reaction to his cold nose. It was mean of him to leech the warmth from his suffering friend, but he couldn’t find it within himself to feel too bad. Not when it rewarded him with a squeeze like that. At his complaining Jin got another rewarding squeeze and he had half a mind never to behave again. If being slightly bratty got Ahn-Bo-ah to baby him, Jin had no qualms.
He huffed a soft laugh at the wolf’s response and nodded. It did feel like this was as fate intended. Miserable, and unfortunate, and terrible— but… as intended, in some strange, backwards kind of way. Jin would still give anything to undo it; if he could give Ahn-Bo back his future and his sister, Jin would even have erased himself entirely from his aein’s life. But… there was no looking back now. There was only what came next, and if he could soften the misery even a fraction, he was more than happy to do so.
Jin lifted his head to rest his chin on Bo-ah’s chest just in time for the handsome wolf to reach for him. His face softened at the implication there and Jin braced himself as Ahn-Bo kissed him. He wanted nothing more— but too quickly Ahn-Bo pulled back for his reaction, leaving Jin blinking dumbly at him. “Ne,” he agreed, voice breathy and wanting. But Jin was too impatient to let Ahn-Bo react and he closed the gap between them again, properly this time. They could die like this and he probably would not even have noticed.

There wasn’t anytime to process Jin’s breathy response before they were kissing again. Ahn-Bo hadn’t necessarily meant to start anything… but it may have been an idea in the back of his mind. Well, maybe not his mind per se, but it sounded better. The kiss was returned with tenderness at first, though the more Jin reacted, the more heated they became. By the time he’d pulled back for air, his fingers were entangled in the back of Jin’s shirt and he was breathless.
“What if we did?” he heard himself whisper. “What if we found a way to stay here? Like this?” It wouldn’t be an easy or comfortable life, but between the two of them, they could sort it out. And when the full moon came… his stomach dropped at the thought of it. Jin had mentioned there had been werewolves at his home before, and here he was, perfectly safe and sound. He could use that cleverness of his and figure out a solution.
RE: when you're stuck inside the dark;; - Seojin Jeong - November 14, 2025
If he’d been trying to misbehave to get what he wanted, he was doing too good a job of it, Jin thought to himself, idly. It was almost like they were— (well, not quite back at school, they never had any real semblance of privacy there) but before. Before things had taken a turn for the worst, before he’d met the version of Ahn-Bo that could exist so hollowed out. Part of Jin still felt like it was too soon. He didn’t want to take advantage of his friend’s grief and dangle his affection like some kind of balm, but then again if it’s what they needed…?
Jin was too far into his own thoughts to keep his instincts in check. He practically rolled on top of Ahn-Bo as they kissed, fingers curled into the front of his shirt again. It was a surprise then, when they broke for air, the few words that tumbled out of the wolf’s mouth. Jin laughed a little breathlessly. “Perish?” He tried to clarify, brain skipping to catch back up with what Ahn-Bo was saying. Was he implying they could just stay here and die together? — oh.
Jin sobered quickly.
“Ani.” He peeled back, face growing serious and propped himself up on his elbow. The anguish that had pinched his heart all last night returned and he couldn’t quite meet Ahn-Bo’s gaze. “I… I can’t,”Jin emphasized quietly. Spirits, how badly he wished he could. But Abeoji would be furious, he would come looking, and— “I have to go back.” Jin said firmly. His heart was thundering in his chest for a wholly new reason now, irregularly and nervous even just at the thought. Realizing this, he sucked in a steadying breath and tried to calm himself. Abeoji wasn’t here now, after all. Jin turned back to Ahn-Bo and raised his free hand to gently brush the fringe out of his aein’s eyes. (Bo-ah was sweaty and, honestly, it wasn’t a terrible look on him some part of Jin noticed abstractly.) But, running the pads of his fingers gently down Ahn-Bo’s cheek to his chin, Jin sighed. “You promised you’d come with me though,” he said gently. It wasn’t the perfect solution, far from it in fact, and a desperate cry from what they had right here and now. But… it was better than nothing.

Ahn-Bo Jeong
The moment he saw Jin’s reaction, he knew he’d made a mistake. The sweet little bubble of pretend they’d created had been popped by reality. The solemnity mixed with fear on his friend’s face filled him with regret. But there was no taking it back now, and he resisted pulling Jin-a back to him.
He’d said similar words the evening before when Ahn-Bo had suggested leaving for good. Of course, he ought to have known that wouldn’t have changed. Jin calmed himself, his breaths more steady as he returned to Ahn-Bo. The wolf recognized the bittersweetness in the vampire’s expressive eyes.
“I will,” he said quickly. There would be no misunderstandings of his intentions. If Jin-a would not—no, could not stay—then they would stick to the original plan. The one that he felt he wasn’t fully prepared for, but he would worry about that later. He hated seeing the fearful expression on his aein’s face, especially since he’d been the partial cause of it. There would be no more questions or reminders until absolutely necessary. Jin deserved to be happy and cared for, and he deserved to be able to enjoy the feeling for however little time they had.
“How long until we have to leave?” Ahn-Bo hedged instead, catching Jin’s hand in his own to press a kiss to his palm. Hopefully they would have at least a little more time here before they descended from their bubble to enter whatever hell awaited them.
RE: when you're stuck inside the dark;; - Seojin Jeong - November 14, 2025
Ahn-Bo reacted quickly and Jin felt a pang of guilt hit him for making the wolf worry. He had enough to deal with emotionally, Jin shouldn’t be dumping his own weight on those strong shoulders. So he schooled his features as best he could and nodded. The light kiss Ahn-Bo-ah pressed to his palm made Jin relax a bit and he returned the question with a sneaky little smile. “Three days,” he responded, honestly. “It was four starting yesterday but the portkey I have to take us back won’t be active until then.” He gave a small sigh and lowered himself back onto Ahn-Bo’s chest. Any heat in his lower belly had been dutifully frightened off at thought of angering Abeoji (unfortunately), but at least now Jin could enjoy the warmth of laying atop his aein without worry of embarrassment.
It was warm in the bedroll, and felt relatively safe from the realities of the outside world. The only thing even slightly tugging at him to get up was a niggling need to use the restroom, but Jin ignored it for the time being. “What do you want to do today?” He asked. “After we eat, I mean,” because he knew Ahn-Bo-ah and that would be the first idea top of mind. Jin grinned lightly. The good news was they didn’t have anything specific on the agenda these next few days and they could do whatever they liked. He would have to brief the wolf eventually on what to expect when they did leave but… Jin was loathe to think about it now. It was enough that Ahn-Bo had reaffirmed his agreement to go back with him. Jin could live with that.

Ahn-Bo Jeong
Three days. It was more than he’d expected to have, and yet still didn’t feel like long enough. Ahn-Bo knew without asking that their relationship—that he was Jin’s aein—wouldn’t be accepted there. It would be more sneaky looks and clandestine meetings like it had been at school. Except he didn’t truly know if even that would be possible. Nor did he want to ask. Whatever it ended up being, it wouldn’t be like this.
Ahn-Bo made a pleased sound as Jin-a returned to him, sliding right back into the space he’d previously occupied without hesitation. The question Jin had poised was a bit silly in the wolf’s eyes. They were out in the middle of the wilderness. It wasn’t like there were predetermined places for predetermined activities in the forest. “Just this,” he responded sincerely, wrapping his arms around his friend again. He tugged him closer (or tried to, Jin had been pretty thorough in that department already.)
They could skip breakfast for all he cared. He was used to having just one or two meals a day now. Although that was likely much easier when the food he’d been eating had been barely edible. Curious to what Jin would say, he returned the question. “What do you want to do?”
