A Charming Weekend~

What better way to spend your spare time than with a posting binge? From August 30th-September 3rd, your posts will do more than just bring joy to the hearts of those around you (and potentially ruin character lives). In addition, they will help net you a BEAUTIFUL stamp and give you a chance to win prizes!

HOW DOES IT WORK?
  • Each "batch" will consist of 5 posts — and just THREE batches completes the weekend! Completing the weekend also contributes to a Camp Charming activity! ;)
  • The catch? Each post within a batch needs to be to a character from a different usergroup! (Posts in group threads can be couted as for any character in that thread; open thread starters cannot be counted).
  • The "weekend" runs from 7:00pm Friday to 7:00am Tuesday, Halifax/Atlantic Time — that means it might not line up exactly with your timezone, but everyone has the same amount of time to post! Take advantage of the long weekend (Canada/USA) to get some extra posts in!
  • Journals do not count, but you may count one letter per batch.
  • All posts must be linked here no later than Saturday, September 7th.
  • Every completed batch gets you a raffle entry, to a maximum of five.
  • If you complete the weekend, you'll also get an entry for an against the odds!

Happy posting!

Back to School Note
  • First Years: Your sorting post does not count.
  • Students: Class threads count for the professor AND/OR any character you directly interact with. Just existing in a room doesn't count for this ;)
  • All Characters: First years count as their residental usergroup for the 30th and 31st of August, and their house group for the 1st and 2nd of September. For example, if you post for Regina Pendergast today, she's an Elsewhere character! You can post for her again on Sunday and get whatever house she's in, even if she hasn't been sorted yet.

Evening, Friday 13th September, 1894 — Gryffindor Tryouts, Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch
They only had two Chasers to replace, so they, unlike some of the other teams, could afford to be choosy. It was only a shame, Jimmy thought with a narrow-eyed look at the assembly of his present team, here to help out, that this new power of Captain hadn’t given him the power to kick off previous appointments just because. (Cough, Greta, cough.)

“Now, look. We won the cup last year, so we need some good goal-scorers here to keep our streak – so no one who isn’t fully committed,” Jimmy said, eyeing up the potential new recruits. “On the pitch or off the pitch,” he warned, with a severe expression and an internal, wicked glee – “if it’s the morning or the middle of the night, and I say jump, you jump.”

He gestured at a box of armbands. “I’m going to split you in two teams, and you’re going to play a half-pitch game amongst yourselves. If your side gains possession, you fly back to the halfway mark and then forwards on these hoops, passing and intercepting and both teams trying to shoot on me as Keeper here. If you drop the quaffle, you’re on thin ice. Mohr and Finnigan will be lurking as Beaters, pelting you with “bludgers”,” – they were stinkbombs enchanted to fly, actually, because Jimmy thought that would be funny, and he’d be able to judge the best of them by who smelled least bad. He grinned. “So the less you get hit, the better. Now, mount your brooms.”

Saturday, September 14th, afternoon — Quidditch Pitch
This was both his third and final year as Ravenclaws Quidditch Captain and Nico felt bittersweet about that. There were a lot of roles to fill so he hoped new talent would be showing up. "Good afternoon, everyone," Nico began when most had gathered up. "As you might have surmised, I am Ravenclaw's Quidditch Captain and my name is Nicodemus Dursley. Today we are looking to fill two chaser spots, a beater spot and we need a Keeper."

He waited for the group to take that in before continuing on. "You will be doing drills designed for the position you are trying out for and those of you trying out for multiple positions will have to do each one for the position you are trying out for in turns. I will blow my whistle to indicate when you should switch drills."

"Those of you trying out for chaser will fly in pairs, as fast as you can three times around the pitch while also passing a Quaffle to and from each other as many times as possible before ultimately attempting to get the Quaffle through one of the goal hoops at the opposite end of the pitch." He let the crowd take in the task before letting the Keepers know what they would be doing.

"Keepers, your job will be to attempt to block the aforementioned goal from going in as well as extra Quaffles that will be thrown into each of the other two hoops by the enchanted dummies over there." Near the opposite ends pitch floated two dummies with Quaffles.

"Beaters, I have set up ten targets at varying places around the pitch. But you will find that they will move. Your job is to hit as many as you can with the bludgers whilst also keeping bludgers from hitting the chaser and keeper hopefuls."

Well, that was that. "You may begin."

September 15th, Morning — Slytherin Tryouts
Sirius was pleased that his tryouts were last, as it had given him time to scope out the prospective competition in other houses. It was also particularly fun, because he was friends with two of the other captains, and now had collected information that would help him poke fun at them later.

He stood in front of his would-be players, feeling rather like a general surveying an army. In front of him was a closed box of the Quidditch balls and bats, and an array of black or white newsboy caps, enough for each of the prospective players. "Ladies, gentlemen — I am your Slytherin Quidditch captain, Sirius Black." (Whether they got on the team or not, he was still their captain — and also their Head Boy. He was adorned with badges.)

"We are hosting tryouts for chasers, beaters, and a keeper today. If you are trying out for multiple positions, you will take it in turns."

"Chasers must complete a circle of the pitch, passing the quaffle at least five times. Afterwards, you will queue up on your broomstick to take shots at our keeper tryouts — keepers, your role is to stop people from scoring. Seems simple, right?"

Sirius grinned, feeling rather sharklike. ''But we cannot forget about the bludgers — everyone will take a black or white cap from me before they take to the skies. Beaters, your role is to aim for members of the team which has the opposite-colored cap to yourself — while protecting your own players. You have fifteen minutes before we swap roles."

And with that, Sirius began handing out the caps and gesturing for people to take to the sky.

September 14th, 1894; Morning — Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch

Abraxas Crabbe loved many things, and quidditch had long been one of them. Calla Potts, in his estimation, had been a solid team captain, but he had long yearned to step into her shoes, had wished he could have more than one year stearing this particular (flying, athletic) ship.

"Welcome, everyone!" the wizard greeted, an easy smile on his features and a broomstick in his hand. "For anyone who doesn't know me by now—" unlikely, given the prefect's badge pinned to the outside of his robes, "—my name is Abraxas Crabbe; you can call me Captain."

It was obvious from his expression that he was joking, but there was always one painfully gullible first year.

"You are here with one goal: to help form the team that will reclaim the quidditch cup for Hufflepuff!"

"Our team needs a new chaser, to attempt to fill the void left by Miss Potts' graduation," Rex explained. "We are also looking to fill both beater positions, and find a seeker."

"Some of you are interested in one position, some two, some all three. I would ask that you start with our chaser trial, if that is where your interests lie. As to what those will look like, you will pair off and pass the quaffle back and forth to one another throughout the obstacle course above." A series of hoops, pendulums, and bars had been suspended in the air for this purpose. "Then, you'll be taking shots on our keeper, Fudge, up there." Rex gestured to Paxton.

"Those of you interested in seeker," he continued, "should be on the lookout for the bobbing bubbles throughout the pitch. Popping those in the colour that matches your assigned armband will earn you points; popping those in any other colour will lose points. And of course, there is a snitch about—though good luck catching that, with no experience. Beaters are also to be mindful of their armband colour: hit the bludgers at only the matching balloons, and make sure none of your would-be teammates get hit during their trials!"

As he finished this last direction, the seventh year straddled his broomsticks.

"See you in the skies!" he bid, before kicking off effortlessly.

August 25th, 1894 — Noble's Workshop
He let her in through the garden gate, as he had a few times this summer — it was a good thing that he was often brewing her potions, and that sometimes she brewed them with him, or someone would have said something by now. The sun still set late at this point in the summer, and the sky was orange tonight — Noble had had the door of the workshop wide open to get some of the breeze flowing in. Now that she was here, Noble closed the door behind them.

"I'm working on a batch of pain potions tonight," Noble said. The pit had been good for business, which felt shitty to think but was also true. He expected that some of its victims would continue ordering from him for a few months now — once they were off the pain potions, they'd want a scar salve. He leaned in to press an introductory kiss to her mouth, warm. They had been continually ramping their level of physical contact over the summer. The last time she'd been by, Noble had touched her under her skirt, and he was fairly thrilled about it.

"But once I add the unicorn tail hairs, I don't have to stare at it — you weren't in town for the pit, right?"
